Don't you think it's a bit much for my 8th grade teacher to give students the Millennium Trilogy to read?

I'm in eighth grade, so 14, and I've read the Millennium Trilogy, absolutely loved it. I noticed my teacher was reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which I don't see anything wrong with. However, a few days later, she had given it to a student to read. Now, I'm not saying that my fellow students can't handle it, but there's controversy over "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", so isn't that a book just kind of too inappropriate for her to give a 14 year old? I doubt the girl's parents would be pleased...
